Green's Transition Process

I wanted to take a moment to update you on the greens as we continue moving through the transition from winter dormancy into active growth.
While we are seeing steady progress, it’s important to remember that this time of year always presents some unique challenges. These cooler weather, including frost just two weeks ago and morning temperatures still dipping into the 40s, has created a bit of "whiplash" for the greens. This back-and-forth between cold and warm slows Bermuda grass recovery, but despite that, improvements are visible week to week.
As part of our transition strategy, we have been routinely topdressing the greens approximately every 7–14 days. Topdressing is critical this time of year — it smooths the surface for better ball roll, helps dilute the thatch layer, which improves irrigation infiltration, and reduces disease pressure as temperatures rise.
You may still notice some inconsistent growth from green to green, or even within a single green. That’s completely normal during the dormant-to-active transition, especially with Bermuda. The good news is that compared to past years, the quality and uniformity of our transition is already significantly improved.
Looking ahead, one exciting change is our decision to overseed greens again next season. Overseeding will shift the major spring transition from March/April to more of a May/June timeline, allowing us to maintain better playing conditions deeper into the spring. This adjustment will help create a smoother, more enjoyable experience during those critical late-spring months.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we guide the course through this important seasonal shift.
