GS3 Ball

We’ve started using a new tool on the greens recently- the USGA’s GS3 ball. It looks like a regular golf ball, but it’s full of sensors that give us data on how our greens are performing. It helps measure three main things: firmness, smoothness, and trueness.

Firmness is one of those things that can be a bit subjective- the definition of "receptive" is different from one person to the next- but having actual data, along with your feedback, will help us determine the right metric range for Terravita.

Smoothness and trueness are more straightforward. They tell us how, well, smoothly, the ball rolls across the green, and that’s something we are always trying to improve. Being able to measure those things regularly and accurately is a big step forward for us.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll start sharing some of this data with you so you can see how each green is performing and how we’re working to improve them. The GS3 isn’t a magic fix, but it gives us a much clearer and more objective look at what’s happening out there- and that’s going to help us make better decisions as we continue to work towards the best possible playing conditions

.

Thanks for reading, and as always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.
