Transition and Thin Areas

Many have asked our what our strategy is when remediating areas that didn’t transition as well as others. Fertilizer, increased water, and traffic management are the three most effective ways to increase the speed in which the bermudagrass grows laterally. Below is are 3 photos of the same area. First photo is early June, second photo is end of June, last photo is today.

In some instances, the space between actively growing bermudagrass is too broad and will not fill in prior to overseed. In these situations we need to either lay sod, which is the quick (but expensive, and not perfect and saved for only the worst of the worst) fix or transplant bermudagrass plants from near by areas, to allow the void to fill on their own. Below is a picture of what that looks like:

All in all, our transition this year continues to be one of the best we’ve seen at Terravita, and is neck and neck with many of the other well transitioning clubs that we’ve visited around town. We will continue to press the pedal to the metal until all of these areas are completely filled in and ready to be overseeded!
