Rain!

What a wild start to June! Last night and this morning, our golf course was treated to a rare and much-welcomed downpour, with rainfall totals ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 inches. While it did interrupt our first "Maintenance Monday" course closure, we can never complain about rain—especially in the June!

To put things into perspective, Phoenix experienced measurable rainfall on June 1st for only the second time since records began in 1896. The last occurrence was in 1914, when a mere 0.02 inches were recorded. This year, Phoenix Sky Harbor reported 0.24 inches on Sunday and an additional 0.07 inches on Monday morning, making this June the ninth wettest on record for the city. Pretty crazy.

Back on our course, the rain led to flash floods filling all the washes, and gravel and dirt found their way onto the fairways wherever they could. One bunker, in particular... #4, suffered silt runoff and will require the removal and replacement of sand to eliminate contamination. Fortunately, this bunker had not yet been addressed in our ongoing bunker maintenance program discussed in last week's update.

Cleanup efforts will take the majority of the week, but there's a silver lining. The hurricane holes we've installed over the past few years performed admirably, absorbing water that would have otherwise lingered for weeks. We've also identified several new areas with standing water where we'll plan to install additional hurricane holes in the future.

We appreciate your patience as we work to restore the course. Rain is always a blessing here, even if it brings a bit of extra cleanup. Here's to more green fairways and fewer dry spells!
