Old Plugs

Terravita Agronomy

I wanted to take a moment to address a question that occasionally comes up regarding the condition of our putting greens—specifically, why old hole plugs sometimes settle and appear slightly lower (or occasionally higher) than the surrounding surface.

There are a couple of reasons for this:

  1. Frozen Ground Conditions: During colder months, we often cut new cup locations when the ground is frozen. When the ground thaws, the plugs from the previous hole locations can settle unevenly, causing them to sit slightly below the surface.

  2. Early Morning Setups: To ensure the course is ready for play each day, we frequently change hole locations before sunrise. While our team always strives for precision, the limited visibility can occasionally make it challenging to get the plugs perfectly level.

We understand how important smooth, consistent greens are to your playing experience. To address this, our staff is out on the course every afternoon, carefully inspecting and repairing old hole plugs and tending to other green imperfections, such as ball marks and spike marks. This ongoing maintenance helps ensure that our greens remain in top condition throughout the day.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to strive for the best possible playing conditions. If you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out.
