Heading into August we have many things on our todo list… the most notable are below!
1. Fairway Widening
You may notice some scalping on the outer edges of the fairway. This is part of a fairway widening initiative currently in progress. We received a lot of feedback last season regarding fairway width, and while we plan to manage the rough more effectively this year, widening select fairways should further improve pace of play and enhance the overall experience. This work is being done now to give the Bermudagrass time to adjust to the new height ahead of overseed.
2. Fairway Aerification
As part of our regular cultural practices, we’ll begin aerifying fairways in early August. Aerification is an essential part of maintaining healthy turf and ensuring long-term playability. We expect this work to cause minimal disruption to the tee sheet and to be completed within a week, barring any mechanical issues.
3. Rye Transition… A Quick Note
Over the past few weeks, we’ve described this year’s summer transition from rye to bermudagrass as “normal.” To clarify, that refers to a transition that’s in line with what other courses in the area are experiencing, as well as what we’ve seen in here previous years. It also reflects the weather the course encountered during overseed, throughout the winter, and into this transition period.
That said, “normal” doesn’t mean we’re complacent. Each season gives us a new opportunity to learn and improve. Transition results exist on a spectrum, from more difficult to more seamless. Last year’s transition was at the high end of that spectrum, and while this year’s has been more moderate, we’re already working toward adjustments that will help us move back toward that higher standard next season.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and look forward to delivering the best possible playing conditions each day.
