I’d like to start by congratulating all the competitors in today’s Senior Open qualifier! It was an exciting day for our team- setting the golf course up for some of the best senior players in the valley!
Transition is here, and overall we are in a excellent position. Our tees, fairways, approaches, and collars are all about 90% bermuda, 10% ryegrass. The remaining 10% ryegrass will continue to transition out over the next few weeks. Rough was about 75% Bermuda and 25% ryegrass early last week, so we elected to complete 2 aggressive height drops, in order to knock out any stubborn ryegrass and help the Bermudagrass out compete.
We still have 1 final transitional herbicide application to be made. This will occur in 2-3 weeks.
You can expect rough to begin to green back up over the next several weeks as it recovers from the height drops. For those of you that play year round, you will see numerous portable sprinkler heads running through out the day. This creates isolated pockets of humidity and accelerates the bermudagrass’s growth.
Green’s are continuing to fill in, and are loving the weekly topdress and fertility. We will begin, more aggressively, verticutting the greens in the next few weeks. In addition to course wide aerification.
Summer’s here!
